System properties “ilities” determine design constraints; increasing security reduces usability. Experienced minisatellite project managers informally defined ilities during system design to reduce the risk of failure. Ilities are formally defined within international standards, conflicting between agencies and primes. Test standards often require paid access and do not provide a selection nor validation criteria for desired system properties. Ilities in context to a minisatellite system require context-specific validation methods. Ilities need dynamic tests that use verification and validation techniques. The project has developed a unified taxonomy to verify ilities dynamically. A tool to automatically validate desired ilities compliments the taxonomy. A freely accessible standard and the accompanying tool will assist future minisatellite missions, and more importantly, the research will provide a resource for establishing teams.
